Smethwick is a town located in the heart of England, bedded deep in the West Midlands with the city of Birmingham to the east. An ancient town mentioned in the Doomsday Book, Smethwick lies on the Birmingham Canal where it was ideally placed during the Industrial Revolution to carry coal between the nearby Black Country and the city.
A self contained town, Smethwick proudly provides all amenities and services for its local population, along with numerous parks and gardens to breathe and play in; however its easy access to Birmingham means that it is somewhat of a commuter town, reinforced by its excellent network of trains, buses and trams. Until recently, the brewing industry was a mainstay of employment within Smethwick, but since the closure of the factories and the subsequent building of houses, employment has been outsourced to 'Brum'.
