Famous for its elegant five-arch bridge across the River Severn, the West Midlands city of Worcester (pronounced 'Woo-ster') lies close to the M5, half way between Cheltenham and Birmingham. It is home to around 99,600 people. The city has two rail stations, offering links to Birmingham and London. Park-and-ride bus services operate in Worcester, helping to keep the city centre quiet and relaxed, even though Birmingham International Airport is just 30 minutes away.
Worcester boasts an elegant Cathedral, fine views of the Malvern Hills and walks along its picturesque riverside. Other attractions include the Swan Theatre and two multi-screen cinemas. Another draw is Huntingdon Hall, a venue for music events, fittingly for a city known as the birthplace of the quintessentially British composer Elgar.
Worcester has its own university, and the Hive library, complete with a café, so you can sip while you read.
