Wirral is located on the southern bank of the River Mersey. The towns northern front faces the City of Liverpool.Considered by many as a suburb of Liverpool (in much the same way as Birkenhead) Wirral has a population of 308,000. Many of the inhabitants commute across the river via one of two tunnels to linking the area to Liverpool and St.Helens. The town itself has tried to maintain as undeveloped as possible, favoring the creation of a number of parks, green belts and golf courses on the peninsula that shares its name.
Amazingly, the Wirral has produced some real superstars and celebrities Ian Botham, Chris Boardman, Elvis Costello and Glenda Jackson to name just a few!
