With its close proximity and easy convenience to Edinburgh, the district of West Lothian is made up of many areas including Livingstone, the county town of West Lothian, Broxburn and Bathgate. Having great transport connections with Scotland's capital, West Lothian is mainly commuter belt although small, local shops, cafes and bars dot the streets along these places and bring them alive during the day and night.
The more rural and tranquil aspects of this region come alive within the history of the place. From Cairnpapple, a prehistoric burial ground to Linlithgow palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, there is so much to see and do. The Polkemmet Country Park is well worth a visit offering the visitor beautiful woodland studded with picnic areas, wandering riverside walks and playground for children.
