In the suburbs of south west London, Wallington in the borough of Sutton, from the mid-19th century onwards has seen huge growth, and in the early 20th century was known as a centre for the production of lavender oil. A bustling, prosperous place these days still proud of its history Wallington is within easy reach of Heathrow and Gatwick and is a classic commuter town serving London. Jeff Beck of the Yardbirds was born in Wallington, as indeed was jazz pianist and composer Neil Ardley.
