Volkswagen or VW is a car-maker which has often been voted the most popular in the world, but it was the Third Reich in Germany in the 1930s, which determined its life at the start. Hitler decided the German nation needed cheap cars or a people's car hence the term Volkswagen. The Volkswagen Type 1 was put into production in 1938 and carried on in production until 2003. Its familiar rounded bug shape was originally designed in a wind tunnel. The Beetle or Bug became the long-running and most-manufactured car of a single design in the world with over 21 million bugs taking to the road. And since the Beetle, Volkswagen or VW has never looked back either and is known as the VW Group with everything from the Golf to Tiguan in its line-up.
