Uttoxter is a market town in Staffordshire and it has a population of 12,000. It was awarded its market charter in the 14th century and is where the construction and demolition company JCB originates from.
Many notable residents originate from Uttoxeter. Filmmaker Shane Meadows comes from Uttoxeter as did Admiral Lord Gardner who commanded Horatio Lord Nelson early in his naval career. JCB is a major employer in Uttoxeter and so too is Foxes Biscuits which has a factory there.
Uttoxeter has a very large retail area. A supermarket is in Uttoxeter as are many leisure facilities as well. A bowling alley, cinema and a fitness centre is found in Uttoxeter's retail area and a major housing development scheme has been planned nearby. Uttoxeter's racecourse also attracts thousands of people every year and it also has the remains of an Abbey. Alton Towers amusement park is close to Uttoxeter as well.
