Stoke-on-Trent, or "Stoke" as it is more commonly known, is located halfway between Birmingham and Manchester on the M6 with a population of 239,000. Stoke is considered to be the home of the pottery industry in the UK, a title that can be seen in the city's nickname 'The Potteries', which reflects the 6 towns (Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton) that are now collectively known as the city. The local football team, Stoke City, also acknowledges the areas manufacturing roots with its nickname 'The Potters'.
Although the city is still a world hub for ceramics, Stokes economy has moved toward the more service based aspects. Betting company Bet365 and telecommunication retailer Phones4U are based here.
Stoke has 2 world famous musical sons Robbie Williams, a proud ambassador of Stoke-on-Trent and Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash.
