Known locally as 'Snozzle', St. Austell is a major town in Cornwall and has a population of around 22,000. It was first mentioned in the 16th Century by John Leland but it was after the discovery of china clay in the 18th century that St. Austell started to grow.
A £75million regeneration of St. Austell happened recently and has transformed its high street. Many well-known brands are situated there. St. Austell is also due to have a major beach front development as well where a £250million beach resort will be built over the next couple of years. Nearby attractions such as the Eden Project benefit St. Austell's economy due to many tourists passing through its picturesque surroundings. St. Austell is also the hometown of renowned actor John Nettles who starred in the TV series Midsomer Murders and Bergerac.
