Skoda don't really "bake" their Fabias, no matter what you might see on telly, but they're still pretty sweet. The latest generation was launched in 2007 as a five-door hatch, but an estate is also available (even in sporty "VRS" spec'). It shares its engines and platform with the MK4 VW Polo, so it's got plenty of grip and rides at least as well as its competitors. The MK1 Fabia undoubtedly helped Skoda win favour with consumers, when it was launched in 1999 it was priced to compete. It was good to drive too, if not a little less exciting than a Fiesta.
