Although the origins of Skoda go back to 1895, the perception of the Skoda in Western Europe in the 1950s and 1960s and right up to VW's takeover of the brand was of a Eastern bloc 'duff' auto. Things began to change slowly thanks to marketing and advertising. In the UK, a major turnaround was achieved with the ironic 'It is a koda, honest' campaign, which was started in the early 2000s. Since 2010, the Czech brand Skoda has got a great new name for itself as a maker of well-built cars, such as the Octavia and Yeti. Only the koda Roomster is a little bit suspect with its unmistakable postie van look. You can't have it all.
