With a population of around 13,000, Sheerness is the largest town on the Isle of Sheppy. It is located on the north west tip at the mouth of the River Medway. During the 19th century, with the development of a pier and a promenade it became a popular seaside holiday destination. These days the Port of Sheerness serves as one of England's largest importers of cars and fresh produce. With this comes a plethora of job opportunities for those seeking a reasonable work-life balance.
In 1975 the Christmas special of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em was filmed in the beach at Sheerness drawing a large crowd. The pebble 'Blue Flag' beach is surrounded by greenery and is a popular family destination.
Sheerness provides an excellent sense of community with many social groups available for residents to join, and one is always welcome to drink a pint at one of the naval pubs by the dock and imagine life way back when.
