Lincolnshire town Scunthorpe is almost synonymous with the steel industry. It has a population of 72,000 many of them involved in the steel industry and associated industrial companies. And despite the gradual erosion of the industrial base in the UK manufacturing sector steel company Corus is still of the biggest local employers.
The town lies on a bank of land that slopes down to the river Trent with low-lying hills surrounding it. It's very well connected to the train network both for southern roots and journeys to Scotland. Well known people from Scunthorpe include Buzzcocks singer Howard Devoto and golfer Tony Jacklin.
