Sandwich is a well preserved medieval town about two miles from the Kent coast and the River Stour was once large enough for big trading and war ships to enter Sandwich Quay. These days things are a little different. Sandwich has a relatively small population of only around 5,000 people, but that has not compromised the wide variety of events and attractions. Sandwich plays host to many festivals and fairs each year, including the Annual Folk and Ale Festival as well as the Medieval Fayre. There is also the opportunity to explore the magnificent Salutation Gardens, historic churches and Fisher Gate which was built in 1384 as part of the town wall and still stands today. The Guildhall and museum uncovers Sandwiche's rich history and houses panels and artefacts from as far back as the 13th century.
Sandwich is home to Dom and Steph, minor celebrities from Channel 4's Gogglebox.
