Cheshire town Sale, famous for its rugby team Sale Sharks, is within Greater Manchester, not far from Altrincham, and has a population of 55,000. A Manchester commuter town, Sale has its own sense of identity even if its big city rival dwarfs it at times.
Sale has more than its fair share of historic buildings and places of interest include the Grade II-listed St Martin church, the church of St John the Divine, and the 17th century Eyebrow Cottage. As for the outdoors life Walton Park to the south west of the town is worth considering for a family day out with a miniature railway on site. The water park in a local nature reserve at Broad Ees Dole is also worth a look.
