Romsey, Hampshire is on the River Test, known for its fishing.
Broadlands, an estate outside of Romsey, was where Charles and Diana spent the first night of their honeymoon. Another estate near Romsey, Embley Park, was home to Florence Nightingale and is where she received the signal from God that prompted her to become a nurse. Embley Park is now a school. King John's House was meant to be a hunting lodge of King John; whether he ever stayed there is debatable, but the lodge is notable for several features including a floor made of animal bones.
Early industries in Romsey, including watermills, were dependent on the waters of the river. Presently, Romsey has several industrial estates and headquarters for several scientific and research institutes, including that of IBM.
Romsey is said to be one of the most haunted places in Hampshire and is referenced to in an episode of the television show "Absolutely Fabulous".
