Located outside Birmingham in the West Midlands, Oldbury is a town of 10,000 people. The surrounding region is known as the Black Country and was historically significant for its key role in the English Industrial Revolution.
Oldbury is mostly residential, but you don't have to travel far to find things to do. A 10-minute train journey will get you from Oldbury into Birmingham New Street Station, with frequent rail services running between the two. Birmingham, as the second-most populous city in the UK, has excellent shopping and a solid economy.
The heritage of the Black Country is celebrated throughout the region at popular attractions like Black Country Living Museum, where an open-air museum is brought to life by period characters, and Galton Valley Canal Heritage Centre, which shares the history of the local canals.
Comedian, writer, and television presenter Frank Skinner and Mick Aston, star of Channel 4's Time Team, both come from Oldbury.
