Northamptonshire is a diverse county of around 684,000 people in the centre of England. It includes the major population centres of Daventry, Wellingborough, Northampton, Towcester, Kettering and Corby. Its central position offers excellent transport links including the M1, M45, M6 and M40 and six international airports all within a 90-mile radius.
Clustered around Northamptonshire's market towns are numerous small villages, many still boasting thatched cottages and leafy country lanes. The county's attractions include Silverstone, and the Santa Pod international raceway, Billing Aquadrome, Rockingham Castle, Rutland Water, Boughton House, Kelmarsh Hall and Rockingham Forest with its rare Red Kites. The county has many country parks and is criss-crossed by picturesque canals.
Once the shoe-making capital of the Midlands, today Northamptonshire's economy relies on a diversity of sources including brewing, food production, tourism and rail freight. The motor sport industry provides significant additional employment.
