One of the largest settlements in Northern Ireland, Newtownabbey is a town of 63,000 people. Located north of Belfast, it is occasionally called a suburb of the city. Many computing and engineering companies have set up shop locally, but it is mainly a residential area. Residents of Newtownabbey enjoy all the cultural benefits of Belfast without the noise of such a big city.
The local sights in Newtownabbey consist of three large public parks and an abundance of churches. However, it's easy via rail services or car to get to Belfast, where one can find many exciting attractions, including the newly opened Titanic Belfast and countless other museums and heritage sites related to the tragic ship, which was built in the city. Belfast lives up to Irish stereotypes (in a good way) with a vibrant nightlife supported by loads of pubs and bars around the city; it's particularly good for live music.
