Newark in Nottinghamshire is a market town of around 37,000 people. It lies on the River Trent and is within easy reach of the A1. The East Coast Mainline runs rail services to Newark.
Local landmarks include the imposing ruins of Newark Castle, once a Royalist stronghold in the Civil War. Today, Newark is famous for its international antique and collectors' fairs, as well as for hosting the annual Nottinghamshire County Show. There's a market of some sort in Newark's cobbled town square on every weekday except Tuesday.
When in town, you could also visit the Newark Air Museum or attain inner peace at the Pure Land Meditation centre in nearby North Clifton. Other Newark attractions include the Wheelgate Adventure Park, the Riverside Park, the Town Hall Museum and Art Gallery and the Newark Golf Centre.
