A market town of approximately 50,000, Macclesfield, like many parts of surrounding Cheshire, has a reputation for being affluent.
With good road links to the north, west, and south, and frequent rail services to Manchester, Stoke, and Birmingham, Macclesfield is well connected. The town council has recently planned a large regeneration project to support the area's economic growth.
Macclesfield Silk Museums pay tribute to the town's historical position as the world's biggest producer of finished silk. Various markets throughout the week pay homage to Macclesfield's market roots. To the east of Macclesfield lies The Peak District, where visitors and residents can enjoy the area's natural beauty on foot or rent cycles for the day.
Macclesfield can lay claim to being the hometown of both footballer Peter Crouch and DJ Mr Scruff.
