Loughborough, a market town of 57,000 located roughly 10 miles from Leicester, is probably best known for highly-ranked University of Loughborough. More than 18,000 students attend the university every year, which accounts for a large percentage of the town's overall population.
The town has four museums and hosts various festivals throughout the year. The local nightlife is boosted by the lively student population. For shopping, residents head to the pedestrianized shopping centre on Market Street or catch a train to Leicester or Nottingham, both of which offer more selection. Rail services provide regular trains to Leicester and Nottingham (10 and 30 minutes away, respectively) as well as a direct link to London.

For the 2012 Olympics, the Japanese team chose to be housed in Loughborough.
