Situated six miles away from Preston and with a population of 35,000, Leyland was nothing but fields during the Roman period. Since the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and its mention in the 1086 Domesday Book, Leyland has gone from strength to strength. Many well-known industries were once in Leyland such as the British Leyland company which produced buses and trucks for major British manufacturers.
Over the past forty years, much regeneration has happened and vast housing stock has been built. Approximately 65% of Leyland's housing was constructed during the 1970s and many famous people have resided there such as the footballers Frank Moss and Mike Salmon.
Leyland has decent transport links as well where train journeys to Manchester and Blackpool only takes a couple of hours to complete.
