With a population of approximately 55,000, Kidderminster sits between Worcester (to the south) and Birmingham (to the northeast) in Worcestershire.
Historically the home of modern carpet fabrication, its importance in the area has declined, although Brintons Carpets still employs hundreds of residents. One of the largest current employers in Kidderminster is the SEALINE yacht company, which manufactures many of its luxury boat parts in a local factory. Other manufacturing plants are located in the area, including one for solid-fuel rocket motors.
Recent redevelopment of the town centre has led the way for improved retail facilities, including a number of national chains and local shops. A twice-weekly market is held in the centre of town, as well. A canal runs through Kidderminster, and residents often go canoeing or make use of walking paths along the water. Big attractions for families are Kidderminster Railway Museum, which features a diverse collection of railway artefacts, and Hartlebury Castle and Museum, located just outside town.
There are direct bus and rail links to Birmingham and Worcester, as well as rail services to London. For those who prefer to drive, Kidderminster is located near many major roads.
