A big producer of commercial vehicles, Isuzu Motors Ltd is based in Tokyo, Japan. In 2005, Isuzu became known as the world's biggest manufacturer of medium and heavy-duty trucks. It is also famous for its diesel engines and for a while was known as a niche producer of diesel engine passenger cars. In 2009, it was producing over 21 million engine units but not for the consumer market. Many other companies use Isuzu and its diesel engines are used by General Motors, Opel and Renault, while in the same year, Isuzu Motors America discontinued the sale of passenger vehicles in the US. Today it is a truck producer, pure and simple.
