Ingatestone is a village in Essex, England with a population of 4,500 people. The actress Sara Miles and her brother Christopher who was a director were born here. Sir William Petre, a lawyer, became the Secretary of State and built a large courtyard house, Ingatestone Hall along with alms-houses which now exist as private cottages in Stock Lane. The Hall is a tourist attraction and houses a range of antique furniture, paintings, and other artifacts. Ingatestone's church is another historical building.
Ingatestone has more than 40 clubs and societies ranging from arts and sports to charitable societies. Among the sports clubs are; Ingatestone & Fryerning Cricket Club, Redstones Football Club, Stones Athletic Youth Club, and the Ingatestone Community Club. Others include the Dramatics Club, Musical and Operetta Group, Choral Society, Horticulture Society and Rotary Club which sponsored the War Memorial.
The locals come together for annual events including the Victorian-themed Christmas evening celebrated on the High Street and the annual firework display at the Fairfield Park for New Year's Eve.
