Known until 1965 as London Airport, Heathrow lies 15 miles west of the city centre. It is handy for the M4 and M25, has its own overground rail stations, and tube links via the Piccadilly line. The fastest link to central London is the Heathrow Express, which takes 15 minutes. By tube, the journey takes about an hour.
Heathrow offers flights to over 180 destinations around the world and hosts about 90 different airlines. An estimated 68 million travellers pass through Heathrow every year.
There are five terminals, with three grouped together in the centre of the airport. Terminal Four is half a mile away on Heathrow's southern perimeter and has its own dedicated rail link. Terminal Five is away on the western side of the airport, again with its own rail station.
Heathrow offers a range of cafés, restaurants and bars, as well as duty-free shopping and bureaux de change. Numerous hotels cluster around the airport's fringe.
