A large town in the West Midlands of England, Dudley is the second biggest town in the whole of the UK, just behind Reading. It dates back to Anglo-Saxon times with even its name deriving from old English, meaning Dudda's clearing. It was a major market town during the Middle Ages and its population has grown considerably since.
Visitors to Dudley can enjoy a whole host of excellent attractions. This includes the unique Dudley Zoo, where guests can see hundreds of animals roaming around an 11th century castle.
Dudley is also home to all sorts of canals, the main one being Dudley Canal itself which is popular with cyclists, walkers and fishermen alike. For those looking for a splendid shopping district, then Dudley Market, which was established way back in 1260, is the place for you. It has been completely pedestrianized since 1982.
