Dronfield is an old town that pre-dates the 1086 Domesday Book and one that for many years had established itself in Britain's prime industries such as coal mining, soap and steel manufacture and the wool trade. The name 'Dronfield,' it is thought derives from the excessive number of male bees, or drones, that were roamed the land.
The town's football ground is the home of the world's oldest football teams but fortunately the other facilities are not as old. In 2010 the Gosforth Fields Sports Complex opened after a £2.5 million investment. It has 10 football pitches and state of the art equipment.
For breath taking scenery, wildlife and nature reserves, the Peak District National Park is only 3 miles away. Notable residents include Def Leppard drummer, Rick Allen, musician Dave Berry, and actor and footballer, Vinnie Jones.
