Originally settled by the Romans, the Kent town of Dartford lies 19 miles south-east of London. Its population is roughly 57,000. Central London stations are around 35 minutes away by train and the town is handy for the A2 and M25.
Bluewater, one of the biggest shopping developments in Europe, is on Dartford's doorstep. The town itself offers an assortment of high street shops large and small, supplemented by the Priory shopping centre and Prospect Place retail park. Open-air markets trade on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Local attractions include drama at the Orchard Theatre and music at The Mick Jagger Centre, named in honour of Dartford's most famous son. The town boasts a leisure centre, and a selection of pubs and restaurants and a nightclub. There's plenty of green space in Dartford's riverside park, also home to a running track and "splash zone". Nearby Dartford Heath is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
