About nine miles away from Newcastle is Cramlington. A town which has an approximate population of 40,000, Cramlington was first mentioned in the 12th century. Cramlington's population was much smaller less than half a century ago but changed when it was proclaimed as being a 'New Town'. Since then, many housing estates have been built. Cramlington also has many large industrial zones which are home to numerous well-known companies.
Cramlington has very good transport links and is near the A1, A19 and A189 roadways. Cramlington Railway Station may be small when compared to other stations but it helps locals to travel to nearby Newcastle. With Cramlington's decent travel links, getting to this town is very easy.
Many leisure facilities are in Cramlington. The Concordia was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1977 and has many forms of entertainment such as a bowling green and a gym.
