Corby in Northamptonshire grew from a small village to a major town during the early part of the 20th century, as a result of its steelworks. Corby enjoys a direct rail link with London St Pancras and is well-placed for the A1, A14 and M1.
Local attractions include Sulgrave Manor, Santapod International Raceway, Billing Aquadrome, East Carlton Countryside Park, the red kites of nearby Rockingham Forest and theatre at Willows Art Centre. The town benefits from an indoor market, an outdoor market, a good mix of small shops and chain stores and the Oasis retail park. Corby boasts two fitness and leisure centres and Priors Hall golf club lies 4 miles from the centre of town.
Today, with steel-making in decline, Corby's economy has diversified. Firms such as RS Components, Oxford University Press and Avon Cosmetics now provide much local employment.
