Brackley is based right in the middle of England in south Northamptonshire. The hillside town is close to Milton Keynes, Banbury and Northampton, and its wealth grew from the lace and wool trade thanks to its good links to London.
The remains of 11th century Brackley Castle can be found, and evidence suggests it had a 10 foot motte mound. Brackley Castle narrowly missed out from making its name in history as it was where the Magna Carta was originally meant to be signed, though heavy fighting meant this didn't happen.
The town gets its name from landowner Bracca who built the first village settlement in about 550 to 650 AD. Now about 13,000 live in the historic town, and it is the birthplace of weightlifter and body builder Sharon Marvel
