The university town of Bournemouth in Dorset lies around 100 miles south-west of London. It is home to around 168,000 people. There's a rail link to London Waterloo. Bournemouth is served by its own airport, offering flights to mainland Europe.
Bournemouth is renowned for its seven miles of sandy beach, which draw 5.5 million visitors a year. There are plenty of other attractions, including the Oceanarium, Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre, Monkey World and the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum. There's live entertainment at the Pavilion Theatre and Bournemouth International Centre. Bournemouth boasts hundreds of restaurants and more than 40 nightclubs.
In addition to its sea views, Bournemouth offers over 2,000 acres of parks and gardens. The pedestrianised town centre abounds with craft shops and boutiques. Castlepoint, the UK's largest retail park, lies on the edge of town.
