A short distance away from Alton is Bordon. This Hampshire town is a popular destination, especially for the residents of Portsmouth and London courtesy of its close proximity to the A3 road. Travelling from Bordon to London by train is also very easy because it is only four miles away from Liphook which runs regular train journeys to England's capital city.
Bordon can trace its roots back to the late 19th century. Its army base was home to the Canadian Army during both World Wars. Today, it still has an army training base that employs civilians as well as military personnel.
An Eco-Town, Bordon's green credentials were boosted after the opening of the Hindhead Tunnel which has drastically reduced the amount of traffic which passes through Bordon. Now, Bordon is a quieter place which will undoubtedly help to lower its carbon footprint.
