The BMW X5 since its launch in 1999 has been one of the most successful SUV'S on the market. Compared to some rivals it is lacking in off road ability, although it can handle light off-roading or pull a horse box with ease. The X5 really shines when it is on the road. In theory, no big heavy 4x4 should handle the way the X5 does but thanks to a sophisticated four wheel drive system it really can. The 5.0litre v8 petrol is effortlessly smooth and powerful but most will opt for the refined diesel. The cabin is plush and standard kit is generous and if you so wish there is vast array of optional extras that can be added.
