Argyll & Bute covers a large tract of Scotland and encompasses such beautiful places as Oban, Mull and Jura. It is a tourist's heaven, especially those who like a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. Oban has a thriving fishing industry and a stunning bay with the majestic Lorn Mountains as an impressive backdrop. Many people base themselves in Oban from there which you can catch a scheduled ferry to the islands of Mull or Jura. Heading to Mull, you arrive at perhaps one of the most photographed places in Scotland Tobermory. On arrival, you are greeted by the jewel coloured buildings of this quite simply lovely town which is clustered around its busy working harbour.
Due to the expanses of coastline, there are some stunning beaches with golden and white sands, where bird and wildlife lovers will be satisfied by the plethora of fauna. Water sports are also evident everywhere you go from sailing and windsurfing to kayaking. Back on the mainland, a scattering of smaller towns and villages radiate out from Oban, with some larger commercial and retail centre's not too far away including Helensburgh and Dumbarton
