Alderley Edge, Cheshire is named for the geographical crest located within the area. A cache of gold bars was discovered in Alderley Edge in the 1990's, but apart from that the area is affluent it is where the Beckhams lived before they relocated to Madrid. Several other footballers live in the area, as do actors and businesspeople.
Alderley Edge has around 4,409 people and is part of the Greater Manchester area.
Up til the 1920s, there were copper mines in Alderley Edge. After the closing of the mines, there was a series of tragic accidents to the mines. At present, the Wood Mine is still open to the public twice a year under the supervision of the Derbyshire Caving Club.
The area has a rich folkloric tradition, which the Alderley Edge-born writer Alan Garner fed into his body of work.
