The BMW 3-Series is a great car, as is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4, but unfortunately, the Rover 75 was never really in the same league. When it was introduced in 1999 the 75 undercut the Germans by some margin, but it looked dated by comparison, especially towards the end of its six-year life. It wasn't a bad car by any means though; it was incredibly comfortable over long distances, and reasonably well built considering it was, in fact, a Rover. At one point, the carmaker stuffed a Ford Mustang-derived V8 under the bonnet (expect frequent fuel stops, if you can even find one to buy that is) - but the best engine is thought to be the BMW 2.0-litre diesel.
